Founded in 2013

At home in the Zwinger. In demand on major stages.

Prof. Igor Malinovsky founded the Dresdner Residenz Orchester in April 2013. Since then, the ensemble has combined its year-round concert tradition in the Wallpavillon at the Dresden Zwinger with an extensive touring schedule.

The musicians have performed at venues including the Berliner Philharmonie, Leipzig's Gewandhaus, Hamburg's Laeiszhalle, the Munich Residenz, Nuremberg's Meistersingerhalle and Potsdam's Friedenskirche.

Its repertoire extends from Baroque music through Viennese Classicism and Romanticism to modern works. The orchestra adapts its line-up from chamber ensemble to large instrumental orchestra, using its own arrangements to bring symphonic works and opera excerpts to life in an intimate setting.

Prof. Igor Malinovsky

Violinist, conductor, teacher and initiator: Igor Malinovsky combines international stage experience with the ability to turn his own artistic ideas into lasting projects.

His career as a soloist, concertmaster and professor has taken him across Europe, Asia, South America and the USA. By founding the Dresdner Residenz Orchester in 2013, he established a year-round concert series that carries Dresden's musical tradition forward with a versatile international ensemble.

Malinovsky plays a violin made by Giovanni Francesco Pressenda in 1826.

From early violin lessons and leading orchestral positions to founding his own ensemble.

Education & Competitions

Igor Malinovsky began violin lessons at the age of six with Prof. Vladimir Milstein in Yekaterinburg. He studied in Vienna, Cologne and Zurich with Dora Schwarzberg, Gerald Schulz and Zakhar Bron. A prizewinner at eight international competitions, he received awards at the Henryk Wieniawski, Yehudi Menuhin, Fritz Kreisler and Pablo Sarasate competitions, among others.

Concertmaster & Orchestral Experience

At 24, Malinovsky became First Concertmaster of the Bavarian State Orchestra in Munich. Further concertmaster positions took him to the Komische Oper Berlin and the orchestra of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia. He has worked with conductors including Zubin Mehta, Kirill Petrenko and Lorin Maazel.

Soloist on International Stages

As a soloist, he has appeared at the Vienna Musikverein, Vienna Konzerthaus and Munich Gasteig, and with the Zagreb and Moscow Philharmonic orchestras. Concert tours have taken him across Europe, Asia, South America and the USA.

Teaching, Commitment & Founding the Orchestra

In 2009, Malinovsky was appointed Professor of Violin at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden. He was a visiting professor in Barcelona and has taught international masterclasses. He received the Paul Harris Fellow Award for his social commitment. In April 2013, he founded the Dresdner Residenz Orchester.
